The Bluegrass Technology Center is a 25 year old consumer driven, non-profit organization assisting individuals with disabilities, their families and service providers obtain necessary technology.

  • Mission Statement

To be recognized as the leader in Central & Eastern Kentucky in providing access to cutting edge assistive technology for people with disAbilities. Coordinating & Assisting the Reutilization of Assistive Technology (CARAT) is Bluegrass Technology's program that accepts gently-used devices and computer components, refurbishes them, and places them back with people with disAbilities who are unable to afford them. This not only helps our community keep unnecessary items out of our landfills but helps make life happen for people facing everyday barriers to live, work, learn and play. Together, we are better. Together, we are changing lives!
  • Project Abstract

Our Refurbishing program, CARAT: Coordinating & Assisting the Reutilization of Assistive Technology is an essential "sister program" to our Center's services of Information & Referral, Consultation/Evaluations, Trainings, Technical Assistance and the operation of Nine Lending Libraries of Adaptive/Assistive devices for people with disAbilities. Additionally assistance is available to help people locate funding and advocacy resources. CARAT was created to match eligible participants who cannot afford them with gently-used computers and Assistive Technology devices. We network with other area loan closets to connect people in need with those who have!
  • Target Population

Bluegrass Technology Center seeks to serve individuals of all ages, all disAbilities. CARAT: Coordinating & Assisting the Reutilization of Assistive Technology seeks to serve individuals with disAbilities who can not afford a computer or Assistive Technology devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, standing frames, crutches, bedside commodes, communication devices, magnifiers, etc. We anticipate that over 400 individuals will be served based on needs/waiting lists. More computer components and AT devices are needed to serve the number of individuals eligble for our programming and to eliminate waiting lists.
