Linking Veterans to IT Futures
Calvin Francis using laptop provided through Texas American LegionCalvin Francis is grateful this Thanksgiving for the opportunity to upgrade his computer skills with the help of a laptop computer donated through the National Cristina Foundation and American Legion District 8 that provides assistance to veterans in the Greater Houston, Texas region. While in the Army he was responsible for human resources at Fort Hood.  He will shortly become a member of American Legion Post 560.

Building on his basic IT experience, Mr. Francis wants to get back into the workforce. Through the collaboration of the National Cristina Foundation, the American Legion and the CompTIA Educational Foundation, Mr. Francis will be taking Skillsoft computer courses with the support of the CompTIA Educational Foundation’s Creating Futures program. He intends, upon completion of these courses, to pursue a career in Information Technology and wants to ultimately complete a four year computer engineering program.

Jim Hauck of the American Legion writes:
“We like to think of Mr. Francis as one of our success stories,” He is now enrolled with CompTIA’s Educational Foundation Skillsoft IT certification training and is doing very well. Furthermore, such training and our partnership with National Cristina Foundation’s technology support program has brought younger soldiers into the Legion. I feel that this is essential for the future growth of American Legion Posts and for Posts to “think young.” As 8th District Service Officer, I look forward to helping a wide variety of veterans return to a normal life.”
