St. Vincent de Paul Society Helps Ohio School Children
Many National Cristina Foundation partner organizations refurbish and distribute computers to schools and charities.  One such group in Fairlawn, Ohio, the St. Vincent de Paul Society operates an "Aim High" program to improve educational outcomes for children in the Akron Public Schools (whose students often fall behind the state average on proficiency tests.)  The Society tries to help families that otherwise would not have access to technology.  Megan A. Mannion, the principal at Rankin Elementary School, wrote the following regarding her experience with the Aim High program:

From her letter:
It is with great privilege that I write this letter of recommendation for St. Vincent de Paul. Last year I had the honor of working with the organization to place over 80 computers in the homes of our children.

The gentlemen of St. Vincent de Paul have a clear vision of what they would like to attempt; to help families that will otherwise not have access to technology have access to a computer.

The families that received these computers were able to use the software provided to help their children learn new skills or reinforce learned skills. However, it also afforded these families a way to learn a marketable skill and an easier way to search the internet for a new job. Several of the families that received a computer through this organization came back to the school and took some parent computer classes.

This would not have otherwise happened without the generosity of St. Vincent de Paul Society and the individuals that make this organization what it is today. I am truly indebted to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
