Horizons for the Blind, based in Crystal Lake, IL, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals who are blind and visually-impaired. They increase accessibility to culture, education, recreation, and employment and consumer information.
They recently told us about one of the ways that donated computers have helped them to help others.

From their letter:
We hire and maintain a qualified staff of over 60% blind and visually-impaired employees, enabling us to provide a high-quality product.
We are a 30 year old organization that serves as a liaison between the blind and visually-impaired community and the sources of culture, education, and recreation.
Each month, we print and mail over 20,000 banks statements and utility bills in Braille, large print and audio formats. These formats are also available for restaurant menus, hotel information and novels.
Thanks to the National Cristina Foundation, we are able to continue to provide our services to this under-served population. The equipment we receive is used to help produce these valuable documents.
With the ever-changing field of technology, we can update our equipment and provide our customers with up to date services. These donations help blind and visually-impaired individuals across the country remain self-sufficient and maintain their independence. Without our conversion, these individuals would need to rely on someone to read this information to them. We are very proud to make a positive difference in their lives!
Thank you for your support!
