DHL AND THE NATIONAL CRISTINA FOUNDATION FACILITATE MUCH-NEEDED DELIVERY OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT TO RED LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Entire Community Stands to Benefit from Access to Equipment

PLANTATION, Fla. – August 10, 2005 / DHL, the global leader in express delivery and logistics solutions, in cooperation with The National Cristina Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides donations of previously used computer technology to non-profits and public agencies that help and train people with disabilities, at-risk students and others lead more independent and productive lives, announced today that a delivery of much-needed computer equipment has been made to the Native American community of the Red Lake School District in Northern Minnesota.

As the Red Lake School District vies to offer diverse educational options and provide its students greater access to technology, a network of organizations including DHL Danzas Air & Ocean, First Energy Corporation, a Ohio-based power company with operations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Anything IT, a New Jersey-based information technology asset management company, had arranged the transportation of several hundred Pentium computer units and assorted equipment weighing upwards of 13,000 pounds. At least 1,200 students stand to benefit from this shipment provided at a discounted rate from DHL Danzas Air & Ocean.

“The National Cristina Foundation provided us with all the information we needed to quickly support their efforts to have DHL Danzas Air & Ocean resources available to help the Red Lake community,” said Kelly Keogh, director of corporate citizenship, DHL. “We were confident that we would be able to make this delivery happen before the start of the school year in September and that students as well as the community at large will benefit from access to computers.”

“We’re extremely proud of the work performed by the National Cristina Foundation in this community-building effort,” said David Bernstein, president, Anything IT. “Any outreach made by organizations to help bridge the digital divide in an information age should surely be commended,” said Delores Jones, community initiatives director, First Energy Corporation. “We were only too happy to participate.”

“This is by far one of the largest donations we have received,” said Ramona Gelhert, principal, Red Lake Schools. “The beauty of this shipment is that it’s extremely timely and a program will be developed to donate extra computer units directly to students for home use to give them the educational opportunity these children need. We’re pleased that the process in getting the equipment here was practically seamless.”

“When the Red Lake School District solicited the help of the National Cristina Foundation to provide additional computer systems to students, we immediately tapped into our available resources to offer assistance,” said Yvette Marrin, president, National Cristina Foundation. “We believe that an entire community will be empowered and that the Red Lake School District will be helped in continuing and expanding its educational initiatives by receiving this equipment.”

When I first saw your ad describing how the Cristina Foundation helps those in need, I was simultaneously moved and inspired. What better use of technology our small business has outgrown than to provide a head start for people and institutions without it? There is so much educational value (and personal growth) that stems from the enablement that perfectly good equipment provides. It would be shortsighted to not seek new uses for it. And the Cristina Foundation has made the process easy.

Congratulations to the National Cristina Foundation

Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, FirstEnergy Corporation is a diversified energy company. Its seven electric utility operating companies comprise the nation’s fifth largest investor owned electric system, serving 4.4 million customers within 36,100 square miles of Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Congratulations, National Cristina Foundation, on your 20th Anniversary! When FirstEnergy needed an efficient way to donate thousands of retired computers to charitable organizations, we found a great partner in NCF.

FirstEnergy strategically directs financial and in-kind resources, including obsolete office equipment, to schools and non-profit organizations to make our communities better places to live and work. We believe that the National Cristina Foundation shares our goal of targeting our philanthropic resources to benefit the most people as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Best wishes for another 20 years of successful community service!

The Donation Experience – individuals commenting

Today we transferred our equipment to Atkinson Youth Services. All items listed were picked up by their representative.

Thank you so much for making this a painless process. We are really happy to be of help and service to the youth in our community.

Per your request, I am notifying you that the computer equipment that I donated to Weston United Organization in Harlem, NY was picked up on Monday. Everything was working when I handed it over to them. Hopefully they are able to find a good use for it all.

This was a very good experience. I’m so pleased that it worked out and that I did not end up having to put it out on the street. Your organization made this a very “user friendly” thing to do and you all are to be commended.

Thank you,
Kate

I wanted to let you know that Mr. Stevens from Union Rescue Mission came to pick up our computer system today. He is a very nice gentleman and he mentioned that the computer would be used by over 20 students. It was so nice to hear how my computer will be used and to know that so many young minds will benefit from it. Thank you for your assistance and for the opportunity to donate through the National Cristina Foundation! What a wonderful organization!

Sincerely,
Kristen

Recently retired after 30 years as a manager of solid waste services for a local government, I am quite impressed with your organization and would like to help spread the word about it… More people need to be aware of the availability of your good work.

Yours in reuse,
Will

I had bought a new laptop and had no more need for my desktop computer. That computer was a Dell PC and I knew that Dell had a program to donate or recycle.

The National Cristina Foundation sent me an e-mail to inform me that Bajito Onda was interested in the equipment. They contacted me and came over to my house and had a cup of tea and told me about their work.

The ladies that came over from Bajito Onda were very professional and courteous. It was very nice meeting them.

I had some older equipment that I no longer wanted, and I knew that I didn’t want my PC to wind up in a landfill. I had heard that Dell’s recycling program included the recycling of non-Dell equipment, so I went to their web site. While I was there I saw that you could also donate equipment.

I was able to go directly to the National Cristina Foundation website from the Dell Recycling page. The on-line procedure was straightforward to enter the details of what was in my system. Very shortly after that I received a response from the National Cristina Foundation informing me that they had matched my computer with the Bajito Onda Foundation.

I hadn’t previously heard of their organization, so I went to their website, and they looked like a worthy organization. Bajito Onda e-mailed me to arrange a pick-up time, and they came over to my home exactly when they said they would. They actually came into the house and carried it out for me.

It was a very easy process, and it went very smoothly. It didn’t cost me anything and I received a tax receipt.

NVIDIA

NVIDIA - A Donor corporation

NVIDIA celebrates the holidays each year with our annual charity event. This event is in lieu of a traditional holiday party, and NVIDIA employees are all given an opportunity to participate.

Last December NVIDIA partnered with Computers for Communities (an east coast based non-profit) to refurbish outdated, or non-working computers. We accepted donations of computers, and working parts from our employees and business partners. Employees came together and assembled and tested everything, creating 450 working systems.

We donated the systems to non-profits in our community, but were hoping to expand our reach to non-profits in neighboring communities. We just weren’t sure where to start.

We learned about the National Cristina Foundation (NCF) through a business associate of one of our VPs. We contacted NCF and explained our program and told them about our donation that was needed to be placed before the year’s end. They helped us through their on-line set up process and found us a recipient within hours.

They connected us with Claire Barnes, Director of Kid's Turn. Claire was wonderful. She arranged for us to make the delivery that day.

Charitable giving is an important part of NVIDIA and its culture. We were happy to be able to help such a great organization. NCF was helpful every step of the way, and provided us with a full list of everything we donated for our records.

Kids’ Turn~San Francisco

Partner organization received equipment from Nvidia

In December, 2004, Kids’ Turn, a San Francisco-based nonprofit organization, received 25 computer workstations donated by Nvidia. This extraordinary donation was made possible through our partnership with the National Cristina Foundation. The computer equipment is helping to ease the digital divide for young people with limited access to computer technology.

Kids’ Turn conducts weekly workshops to teach violence-free parenting skills to young people in San Francisco’s Juvenile Probation System (Y-TEC). It was the goal of Kids’ Turn to infuse technology-based activities into the workshops, thereby enriching the program. When the call came from the National Cristina Foundation that 25 workstations were loaded on a truck and ready to be delivered to a recipient organization, the Kids’ Turn staff scrambled to prepare room in the Market St. office to receive the equipment.

Throughout January, Kids’ Turn and Y-TEC staff created a timeline and strategy whereby the bulk of the equipment would be installed and networked in San Francisco’s Juvenile Probation facility. By February 1, fifteen entire workstations were moved into Y-TEC, leading to the opening of the computer lab in early March.

Kids’ Turn is also a founding member of the African American Family Resource Network, serving distressed families in the Bayview Hunter’s Point community. Seven of the workstations went to programs offering foster care and youth leadership for African-American children whose lives are impacted by the extreme violence in the Bayview Hunter’s Point Community. Additional member agencies in the African American Family Resource Network have since applied to the National Cristina Foundation for assistance and received donated computer equipment.

The dream of a new computer lab at Y-TEC could not have been realized without the generosity of Nvidia paired with the capacity of the National Cristina Foundation to link donors and service providers. As the Rev. Theron Jones stated: ‘With support from the National Cristina Foundation, we should never have to buy another computer.’

Mr. POWELL

SODEXHO CORP.

I think the biggest thing for me was that the NCF donation program would touch different organizations rather than just directing it to one group in particular. You’d much rather see the equipment put to re- use to benefit others rather than just being scrapped. I think that was the biggest dealmaker for me.

Choosing the National Cristina Foundation provided us with "one stop
shopping" for disposal of our computer technology. I was looking for one place that could support me nationally. Rather than having to look at different organizations in different locations throughout North America. I could go to you and you would take care of it across North America.

We did some research on National Cristina Foundation. Your background, what you've done, how you've worked and so forth. We were pleased, as well, that you could verify every charity requesting a donation from us. It really helps that you are doing all the front work for
us.
