
The Mayor of Tempe, Arizona announced the winners of the 20th Annual Tempe Mayor's Disability Awards. The awards include Employees of the Year, Outstanding Student Employees of the Year, Outstanding Employer of Students, Girls Scholar Activity Participant of the Year, and Pride of the City Award. One such winner, the Outstanding Employee of the Year was Valerie Gonzalez. She works for the Parks and Recreation Department, coaches softball and is a clinic instructor. Despite having a stroke has continue to make a tremendous difference in her community.

The mayor spoke fondly of longtime Tempe resident Mike Franjevic, who was honored posthumously for his work in improving the city's public transportation for disabled residents. His wife, Barbara, and his children accepted the Pride of the City Award.
