
The X-Prize Foundation with sponsor, Progressive Casualty Insurance Co. is offering a cash prize of $10 million to the first company to get 100 miles to the gallon or more for a vehicle. The prize is split between two categories. The first, mainstream, must have four wheels, carry four or more passengers, an audio system, climate control and 10 cubic feet of cargo space. The vehicle must also go 60 mph. The second category is alternative vehicles. The vehicle must carry at least two passengers and have at least five cubic feet of cargo space and go at least 80 mph.
